Our Services

We offer testing services beyond basic hearing testing.

Special High Frequency Tests

Special tests for monitoring very high frequency hearing loss beyond the scope of the standard audiogram.  Used for patients on chemotherapy that may be ototoxic or for those experiencing a sense of hearing loss that is not apparant on the standard audiogram.  Specially designed and calibrated headphones must be used for this application.

SPEECH-IN-NOISE (QUICK SIN AND BKB-SIN) TESTS

Because speech understanding in noise cannot be reliably predicted from the audiogram, this test may be administered to help understand the unique difficulties some patients encounter when trying to understand speech imbedded in noise. The test is used to compare each individuals speech in noise abilities compared to normal listeners.

The Ten Test

Hearing impairment is often associated with damage to the hair cells of the cochlea. An area of the cochlea with complete loss of function of inner hair cells is known as a ‘dead region’. Dead regions can be identified by measuring detection thresholds for pure tones in quiet and in threshold-equalizing noise (TEN). This helps to determine the viability of very high frequency intervention.

Otacoustic Emission Test (OAE)

A special test procedure that is objective, time efficient ,and non-invasive. It useful for differential diagnosis, monitoring of progressive loss due to ototoxicity and consistent exposure to loud music or noise, and for testing uncooperative patients or individuals with developmental disabilities or very small children. It is also a test used for identifying a feigned or functional complaint of hearing loss.

Quality hearing care is more than just a pure tone hearing test. These are the services available and when appropriately applied, offer a complete hearing assessment and a rehabilitation plan
